These are some of the indirect effects that alcohol can have on the addicted person.  There are perhaps more dangerous problems that are a direct result of alcohol and alcoholism.  Alcohol, like any drug, affects one’s brain and motor skills.  Alcohol will hinder one’s ability to walk properly.  It will be so taxing on one’s motor skills that it will affect how one speaks making their words “slurred”.  Alcohol slows down the time it takes somebody to react to any given situation and it can decrease one’s ability to remember.  Most of these impairments begin after only a few drinks.

It is well known that extensive drinking will cause minor to major brain damage and that even light drinking causes some short-term problems.
