Stopping Drug Addiction Before It Starts with Narconon Drug Prevention and Education

Narconon Vista Bay believes in educating young people regarding the dangers and truths about drugs so that they can make good, positive choices in their lives and avoid the pitfalls that come with addiction.  Vista Bay does this by bringing Narconon Drug Education into schools free of charge.  Their goal is a drug-free, crime-free world and Narconon works tirelessly towards this goal by educating kids on a daily basis.

Narconon Vista Bay is able to bring this education to kids free of charge because during the summer they raise money through donations and an annual golf tournament.  This year they raised over $23,000 dollars to help pay for the expenses incurred bringing this wonderful Narconon Drug Education into the classroom.

The Development of the Narconon Drug Education Program

When the staff of Narconon developed their Drug Education and Prevention Program, they took a long, hard look at how drug education had failed in the past.  We are all familiar with the “Scared Straight” motif of the 1970’s.  This wasn’t very effective because the information that was given was sometimes fabricated to make a strong impact and thus easily discredited.

The Narconon Drug Education program is based in truth and the results are phenomenal.   The reason for this is because their program is telling the facts so that the kids can make up their own minds as to whether or not they want to use drugs.  Narconon finds that giving youngsters the power of choice with the truth about drugs empowers them to make the right decisions when it comes to drugs.  Methods in the past like “Scared Straight” and “Just Say No” were more fear based curriculum which told the kids how to behave as opposed to letting them choose how to live their lives.  The Narconon Drug Education uses true-to-life application with a hands-on demonstration.  Giving the kids the information and the power to come to their own conclusions is the optimum way of helping kids steer clear of the destruction caused by drug addiction.

Narconon’s careful assessment of the questionnaires filled out by the students has given them exact information that causes children to:

• Choose to stop using drugs if they have already used them.
• Alter their feelings about trying or using drugs to a strong conclusion not to use them.
• Take a strong, defined stance against using drugs for the rest of their lives.

Narconon Drug Education lecturers realized that, just like in school, the more entertaining the presentation is the more kids will get out of it.  So they do their best to keep it funny and interesting to keep the students engaged in the information being presented to them.

A really important message that the Narconon Drug Education lecturers get across to the kids is the problems that are usually at the root of drug addiction.  For teens, it is usually boredom or struggling to communicate well with the world around them.  This part of the education is accompanied by relaying the importance of setting goals and having a positive path in one’s life.  The Narconon Drug Education officers tell the children that the more productive and happy they are in their lives, the less likely they will want to change how they feel.  The kids are taught that the feelings from drugs are temporary but that the damage they cause one’s health and relationship with the world around them can be long lasting or permanent.  Narconon Drug Education lecturers have usually “been there” themselves so they can speak with true knowledge as it applies to their lives in hopes of giving the kids insight so they can make the right decisions in their own lives.

Narconon is Making a Difference

In the 2010-2011 school year, Narconon Vista Bay educated over 10,000 kids regarding the truth about drugs and next year they plan on reaching even more.  This is just one Narconon center in a network of world-wide Narconon Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Centers and Drug Education and Prevention Programs.  Together Narconon is truly making a difference teaching the youth of our world about drugs and their harmful nature.  By giving our kids the truth that they deserve, they are able and more willing to choose a life without drugs.  A life without drugs will ultimately be more rewarding, more fulfilling, and happier for these kids and the entire world will be a safer and more enjoyable home for everybody and the generations to come thanks to Narconon.
