Narconon Receives Celebrity Backing in Hawaii

John Travolta and Kelly Preston Support Narconon

John Travolta and his wife Kelly Preston are two celebrities who have come forth to support Narconon Hawaii.  Kelly Preston grew up in Hawaii and is a graduate of Punahou High School.  Because of the Travoltas’ support, many more people in Hawaii will be able to get the treatment and services that they need from Narconon.

Chad Bloom is a Hawaiian native and a recent graduate of Narconon Arrowhead in Oklahoma.  He went to the Oklahoma facility because, at the time, there was no Narconon in Hawaii.  When he arrived at Narconon Arrowhead, he was heavily addicted to ice, the very potent, smokeable form of crystal methamphetamine.  He was severely underweight and his skin had broken out.  Before making the choice to come to Narconon Chad was living on the streets.  With nowhere left to go, Chad went home, but his mother refused to coddle him.  He was left to ponder his options, and he chose to get help.

John Travolta and Kelly Preston understand that there are many more people facing the same types of problems that Chad once did.  They are committed to helping Narconon set up a residential treatment facility in Hawaii.  They hosted a benefit on Oahu to raise money to get the plan in motion.  This is not there first endeavor in Hawaii.  A couple of years ago, Kelly helped start a drug education program on the Islands.  She lends her hand to Narconon and is really interested in helping to bring Narconon’s services to the Hawaiian community.

Preston became involved after watching a documentary that focused on the rising crystal methamphetamine problem in Hawaii.  She says the experience was an eye-opener which really motivated her to make a difference.  She then got in touch with Narconon Hawaii and other drug education and prevention groups and organized free drug education sets aimed at helping parents pass on the right information to their kids regarding drugs.  These free drug education sets and free drug education lectures have been delivered to over 65 schools in Hawaii and more are on the way.  Almost 90% of the kids polled stated that they will not ever use drugs because of what they learned from the Narconon Drug Education lectures.

Now a new Narconon facility is underway in Hawaii thanks to the help from people like John Travolta and Kelly Preston.  Chad’s family’s business is one of the contractors hired to complete the project.  Chad has his life in order now and has taken ownership for his past transgressions.  He is happy to help with the new project because he wants other people to be able to receive the help that he got – and what better way than to help bring the Narconon program that saved his life to his home state of Hawaii.

Kelly Preston is impressed by Chad’s recovery and has high hopes for the Narconon Program in Hawaii.  She says that crystal methamphetamine abuse has decreased in the state over the last few years, likely due to the drug education that Narconon and other groups are delivering to schools.

Preston makes certain that her involvement with Narconon Hawaii is not merely an endorsement; she and John will be working closely with Narconon until the drug problem on the Islands is a thing of the past.

Narconon History and Background

Narconon officially started on February 19, 1966 in the Arizona State Prison.  It was created when an inmate named William Benitez, who was seeking self-betterment, read a book called “The Fundamentals of Thought” written by L. Ron Hubbard.  Benitez was so impressed by what he read that he was inspired to start a program within the walls of the prison to help people like himself recover from drug and alcohol addiction once and for all.  After months of urging prison officials to let him start the program, he was granted permission and on February 19, 1966 the Narconon Program was born.

What sets the Narconon Program apart from other programs is that it offers a drug-free withdrawal where people can cleanse their bodies of all the drug residues that are trapped in their fatty tissues.  These residuals can stay dormant for years and get rereleased into the bloodstream causing cravings for the original drug.
